Old Orchard Beach Historical Society Facts

Founded:
The Old Orchard Beach Historical Society was incorporated on Nov. 10, 1954.

Collections:
The Historical Society's museum is best known for its collection of clothing, with over 217 pieces. These vary from military uniforms to antique bathing suits to the outfits and garments of past Old Orchard Beach residents. Though not all articles of clothing are on physical display, a binder with photos, names and descriptions of each piece is.

Facilities:
The Old Orchard Beach Historical Society and its museum currently reside in the old W. Warren Harmon house, known today as the Harmon Museum. W. Warren Harmon was a prominent businessman and local dignitary who was also an early member of the Old Orchard Beach Historical Society. When he died in 1974 he named the city of Old Orchard Beach and the Old Orchard Beach Historical Society as major benefactors in his will. His house on Portland Avenue was left to the town, and it now houses the Historical Society's museum.
